Local 2 is Moving for Mesothelioma

Greetings!  We are writing to you since you were a Moving for Mesothelioma supporter in 2019. We are excited to bring back the Insulators Local 2 Move for Mesothelioma 1-mile, 5K, and 5-mile race/walk, now in a virtual format.  It started on National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, Sunday, September 26, 2021, and ends on Saturday, October 2, 2021.

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos.  The most common forms of mesothelioma affect the lungs known as pleural mesothelioma, as well as peritoneal mesothelioma which involves the abdomen.  Treatment for mesothelioma may include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Asbestos was used for decades in almost every industry including steel mills, power stations, factories and military as well as household products and appliances.  Mesothelioma affects every type of trade, including insulators, pipefitters, electricians, mechanics, millwrights, construction workers and bricklayers, just to name a few.  In addition, exposure to asbestos by family members can occur when exposure to the asbestos fibers on the workers’ clothing is brought into the car or in the household. There is no trade or industry that can be excluded for the potential of asbestos exposure.

I am sure that you can see the need for fundraisers for such a worthy cause. To make the race a success, we are asking that you become a virtual race sponsor and support this cause through a monetary donation. Please see the attached sponsorship benefits and flier for the virtual race.
