How often do wrong-site surgery cases work?

Wrong-site surgery is an easily preventable mistake that still happens year after year. In these cases, doctors typically do the proper procedure, but they simply do it on the wrong part of the body. This can be due to many factors, such as misleading notes, improper marking, switching patients at the last second, and much more.

Now, there is no way to say definitively if a wrong-site surgery medical malpractice case is going to result in a verdict for the patient or not. All cases are different, and there are many things to consider.

That being said, it is possible to look at studies and statistics that paint a picture of what has happened in the past. For example, according to one study, a full 79 percent of the claims for wrong-site surgery done on a patient's eyes ended up netting rewards for the patients. In wrong-site orthopedic cases, the percentage was even higher, at 84 percent.

Keep in mind that this is just looking at two types of claims. These cases can spring up after almost any surgery, whether it's done on the wrong leg, the wrong ear, or any other part of the body. Additionally, there are similar cases in which the wrong procedure is done, even if it's done on the right place. These are slightly different, but they can have a similar impact on a patient--and that impact may be life-altering.

If you've been injured or even disabled after surgery was done improperly and you want to start a case, be sure you know what legal steps to take in Pennsylvania.
