What is asbestosis?

People who have worked around asbestos are subject to a variety of illnesses that can make life less enjoyable or even lead to death. While most people think about mesothelioma when they think about illnesses caused by exposure to asbestos, there are other illnesses that can occur because of that exposure. One of these is asbestosis.

What is asbestosis?

Asbestosis is a medical condition that is caused by shortness of breath and lung tissue scarring. Interestingly, the signs of asbestosis aren't usually present for 10 to 40 years after the exposure to asbestos. This means that anyone who has been exposed to asbestos and is suffering from shortness of breath or other asbestosis symptoms should seek medical care right away.

What are the signs of asbestosis?

Some of the signs of asbestosis include chest pain, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Other symptoms include a rounding of the fingers and toes that is coupled with these digits appearing wider than normal. A dry and persistent cough is another sign of asbestosis.

What are the treatments for asbestosis?

The treatments for asbestosis usually revolve around treating the symptoms. One treatment that is common for asbestosis patients is the use of supplemental oxygen.

If you are suffering from asbestosis, you might decide to pursue options for compensation. This can help you to enjoy the time you have left with your family without worrying about costly medical expenses. It is crucial that you get to work quickly so that you can gather information and make the choice that is right for you.
