That backyard barbecue can be very dangerous

As summer gets closer in Pennsylvania, you may start day-dreaming about going over to your neighbors' for a staple of the American summer: the backyard barbecue. While it can be a lot of fun and a great way to share a meal, it can also be more dangerous than you may think.

Did you know that the National Fire Protection Agency claims there are over 6,000 explosions and fires every year that are connected to propane grilling? These incidents kill 20 people each year and send at least 20,000 to the emergency room.

Not all accidents happen while grilling the hamburgers. Some people put propane tanks in the car, but they can heat up, causing the gas to expand, and then explode. Others ignore the smell of leaking gas and have an explosion when they light the grill. No matter how it happens, a propane explosion can be incredibly dangerous.

The same is true for outdoor turkey fryers, which have gotten more and more popular. Experts warn to never use them in the house, but they can also be dangerous outside. If fueled by propane, they have the same dangers as your grill. In addition, the fryers use super-heated oil, which can cause serious burns if it spills or splatters onto exposed skin. There are even stories about birds that get too hot and explode, throwing hot oil and a ball of fire all over the yard.

Have you been injured in an outdoor cooking accident caused by someone else? If you have, you may be able to seek compensation for those injuries.
