Lawsuit filed against airport over horrific bathroom slip and fall

Most people have no reservations about entering any of the international airports scattered throughout the state of Pennsylvania -- from Allentown and Erie to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh -- to catch a flight to their destination. That's because they assume that these terminals, which are a vital piece of national infrastructure, are safe from a security standpoint, a construction standpoint and even a general maintenance standpoint.

While this assumption is certainly not off base, it's important that understand that airports often miss the mark concerning this last point. Specifically, airport employees can -- and often do -- fail to meet their duty of monitoring and maintaining the premises so as to ensure the health and safety of all guests.

To illustrate, consider a recently filed premises liability lawsuit concerning a horrific slip and fall accident at the Philadelphia International Airport.

According to the complaint, a woman was using a restroom in Terminal B of the airport back on August 15, 2011, when she slipped and fell in a standing pool of water that had not been identified by any caution tape or warning sign.

Unfortunately, the complaint indicates that this fall caused her to suffer an array of debilitating personal injuries to her head, limbs and body, and has since resulted in the onset of both chronic pain and mental anguish.

Her lawsuit, which names the Philadelphia International Airport, the City of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, alleges that the airport failed to maintain and inspect the restrooms, failed to provide proper notice to guests about a dangerous condition, and failed to properly train maintenance crews on how and when to properly place warning signs.

Always remember if you or someone you love have suffered life-changing personal injuries because of a slippery surface, or because of some other type of negligence by a property owner, it's extremely important to understand that you do have rights and you do have options.
