Underage Pennsylvania men die after being served at local bar

Underage drinking can have devastating consequences to teens, their families, and those who may be seriously injured by a drunken teen's actions. Even more tragic is the senseless wrongful death of a loved one due to a bar, liquor store, or restaurant serving alcohol to an intoxicated person.

Three underage Pennsylvania men drank at a local bar before getting into a fatal crash. They attended a party earlier that evening, drove to a bar and were served there even though they were visibly intoxicated.

When someone dies through the negligent act of another, wrongful death attorneys can help file a wrongful death claim. According to the criminal complaint, bystanders at the bar said that the men were served alcohol there and were seen drinking shots. One person who was present at the bar saw the young men stumbling into the parking lot.

The men then got into their pickup truck and as they were returning to the bonfire party where they were earlier, lost control of the truck on a muddy road and crashed into a pond. The three men were trapped inside the upside down pickup truck, submerged in the pond under 4 feet of water. Eyewitnesses tried in vain to help them, even using a crowbar to break windows and pry open the doors. Tragically, all three men drowned.

Charges were filed against the owner of the bar, who was charged with tampering with evidence. Police think he deleted footage from bar surveillance tapes. A bartender, a 22-year-old woman, was also charged.

Bar owners, restaurants, liquor stores, and others can be held liable for auto accidents and deaths that result from their illegal sale of alcohol. Those who knowingly or negligently serve alcohol to intoxicated or under age people can be held liable for accidents they cause as a result.

People who file a wrongful death claim may be able to receive compensation for funeral, burial and memorial expenses and general damages. To determine where negligence lies, a legal professional should organize a detailed investigation into the accident and then recommend the best course of legal action to take.
