Fatal car accident in Amity kills Venango man

The driver of a 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo sedan was killed in Amity Township just west of Route 8 on Arbuckle Road. Pennsylvania troopers on the scene reported that the 21-year-old had been driving at an excessive speed. They reported his vehicle hit a utility pole, before flipping over into nearby field and catching fire.

Wattsburg state police stated the young man from Venango Township died from multiple- force trauma in the fiery crash, but no other vehicles were involved. They reported that the Monte Carlo had crashed less than four miles south of Wattsburg at 8:15 a.m. on July 25. Investigators suspect excessive speed contributed to the crash and while no autopsy is scheduled, according to the county deputy coroner, there will be a toxicology report. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:20 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania state troopers claimed the young man was driving south on Arbuckle Road at a high rate of speed, when he allegedly lost control of the car west of Route 8, and struck a utility pole with such force that it snapped in two. The car rolled several times before flipping over, landing on its roof in a soybean field less than 20 feet from the main road.

Investigators report the victim was trapped in the car as it caught fire and although nearby witnesses attempted to free him from the burning vehicle, they were unable to do so. Another vehicle traveling north witnessed the fiery crash in his rearview mirror and contacted police. A section of Arbuckle Road between Route 8 and Hatch Hollow Road was closed while state police and firefighters investigated the scene and cleared the area.

There is rising concern that highway fatalities are outpacing military causalities in the taking of American lives. We therefore need to do more to protect ourselves from becoming a number on the highway. Speed limits and safety barriers could be one way to bring about more road safety laws enforced by state troopers. If you do a lot of driving in the state of Pennsylvania, one important step you can take is to consult a group of wrongful death attorneys who can provide advice on how to protect yourself while driving on our national roads. They can explain your rights and help determine if you or someone you know are eligible for compensation following a fatal car accident.
