Construction worker at Wal-Mart worksite suffers burns

Accidents can happen at any time and anywhere. A tragic accident can occur whether a person is driving, walking or at work. Some work environments can be very hazardous and can lead to serious injuries. Although employers seek to keep risks low in dangerous occupations, accidents can still occur. On-the-job injuries may cause the employee an immense amount of pain and may require a lengthy recovery.

A roofer working on a Wal-Mart work site was recently injured in a workplace accident. The Pennsylvania man was injured after the portable generator he was attempting to start backfired. This resulted in the man's shirt igniting after sparks flew. Emergency crews we called to the work site and the roofer was flown to the hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old man suffered multiple burn wounds to his face, arms and torso.

The worker's injuries were considered serious, although not life-threatening. The work accident was described as a freak accident. It wasn't reported whether or not investigation of the work site has been completed, but construction of the Wal-Mart super center is still expected to be completed on time.

The injured worker could file for workers' compensation benefits to help with the costs incurred after the accident at work. Financial burdens such as medical bills, rehabilitation and damages could be covered. In addition, any wages lost during the recovery process could be covered as well.

Whether attributable to common risks or considered a freak accident, workplace accidents can happen at anytime. Workers and employers should seek to reduce the chances of workplace accidents by providing training and safety equipment. Moreover, employees should educate them about any benefits they could receive while they are recovering from a work injury.
