Pennsylvania college student killed by car

A Penn State student died after he was struck by a car a day earlier. Responding officers found the young man lying unconscious on the street with a head injury. The student's friends and the vehicle's driver gave different accounts of what happened the day of the fatal accident.

Negligence is almost always involved in what may be a wrongful death case and it is the most serious of all personal injuries. For this young man's family, finding wrongful death attorneys that focus on this type of situation is important and necessary.

Pittsburgh police said the young man was walking down the street when the accident happened. The car's driver told police that the man and his friends surrounded the car and started banging on the hood. The driver stepped on the accelerator, hitting the young man. The young man's friends told police that the driver of the vehicle, a silver BMW, hit him deliberately. Investigators said the driver left the scene, but immediately called 911 to report the accident.

Video surveillance cameras, interviews with witnesses, and other evidence showed no criminal culpability in the young man's death. The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office said no criminal charges will be filed in the death of the college student. However, the investigation will remain open and charges could be filed if new evidence emerges.

A wrongful death case can be very complicated. Aside from the loss of a loved one, there may be the concern of medical expenses prior to the wrongful death and funeral expenses. Those who are legally responsible for a person's death can be held accountable in a court of law by the surviving family through a wrongful death suit. To determine where negligence lies, a legal professional should coordinate a detailed investigation into the accident and then recommend the best course of legal action to take.
