Georgia Drug Rehab Center Slapped with Multiple Lawsuits

A local news reporter initiated investigations of a Georgia drug rehab organization following a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a 28-year-old man who suffered an overdose at the facility in 2008. The center, Narconon of Georgia, reportedly maintains close ties with the Church of Scientology and has also come under fire from charges relating to credit card and insurance fraud.

The 41-page class action suits filed by 11 families claim the facility is a scam. There are other organizations listed in the lawsuit, including Narconon International. The rehab center now faces revocation of its license by Georgia health regulators, which is accusing the facility of deceptive practices and negligence.>/p>

Individuals who checked into Narconon of Georgia claim they were promised a properly licensed residential treatment center that boasted a 70% success rate of individuals attempting to undergo rehabilitation for substance abuse.

One parent, whose son died a few months after enrolling in treatment, told reporters the rehab center promised to obtain financial assistance in order to cover treatment expenses. The parent stated the facility obtained unauthorized credit cards in her name, and maxed the cards out on their credit line. Another parent subsequently lost his home after the same alleged actions. In addition to wrongful death lawsuit, charges also include touting the facility as a glorified pharmaceutical company masquerading as a center that offered a magic solution to cure addiction.

The fraudulent and wrongful death charges filed in Gwinnet County State Court are demanding compensation from the center and a total refund of all monies invested, along with attorney fees and damages for pain and suffering.

The wrongful death lawsuits are expected to include additional plaintiffs from Georgia and neighboring states.

If you believe you have a lost a loved due to another's negligence, contact a Georgia wrongful death attorney. You could receive compensation for your loss, as well as other claims. Your attorney would be able to explain all of your options in such a case.
