Asbestos-related illness case filed in Pennsylvania court

A former mayor claims to have been exposed to asbestos when he worked as a naval ground controller, as a machinist at a steel company, as a rocket inspector, and as a machinist for a railroad. As he has now been diagnosed with lung cancer, he has brought an asbestos related suit in Pennsylvania courts.

In a complaint filed by his attorney, this individual claims asbestos exposure due to products manufactured, sold or distributed by the defendants named in the lawsuit. The claimed exposure apparently came over a period of a number of years.

Cases involving asbestos injury or illness are different from other types of personal injury cases in many respects. These cases often involve multiple numbers of defendants, and demonstrating that there was asbestos exposure and that the exposure caused the condition in question can be complex. It generally takes attorneys experienced in trying these types of suits for plaintiffs to be provided with a successful result.

Proving up such a claim may not be easy. For example, the worker in question had also been a smoker over a 60 year period. Without doubt, defendants in this lawsuit will attempt to blame the cancer on the smoking rather than on any alleged exposure to asbestos. Also, defendants in these sorts of cases are generally major corporations, and these companies will put a significant amount of money into defending themselves in asbestos type cases.

No one wants to receive a diagnosis from their doctor that they have lung cancer. Under any circumstance, such a diagnosis is extremely grim.
