Bayer sued in Pennsylvania over birth control device

Bayer is getting sued in Pennsylvania regarding claimed manufacturing and design defects to a birth control system it manufactures called Mirena. Mirena is a device that is inserted inside of the woman's body, but it is alleged that once inserted the device can begin to move in unpredictable manners.

If the allegations are correct, this could turn out to be an extremely widespread problem. It is estimated that more than 15 million women have already been fitted with this device.

The lawsuit asserts that labeling for Mirena does not contain any warnings about possible spontaneous migration. The complaint continues by stating that the device can become embedded in the body, and can lead to serious infection or miscarriage of a child should the woman become pregnant while using the product.

In many products liability cases, juries have ruled that manufacturers did not properly test products for safety. Too often, demands are made to market the product in hopes of gaining quick profits, but attempts to promote the product in this manner have led to many people being injured. Though recalls of products are often made, this generally only takes place after injury or even death has taken place.

For individuals with questions regarding defective products, they may wish to consult with experienced products liability attorneys that can advise about possible options. Because products liability cases often involve large manufacturing companies, it often takes a skilled attorney to prevail since manufacturers have so much money at their disposal to use in hiring their own legal staff.
