Worker injured in Pittsburgh steel plant fire

Last month, an employee of a Pittsburgh-area steel plant suffered minor injuries when a fire broke out at the plant. The injuries suffered by the worker were not severe, but he was taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter as a precaution.

The industrial accident occurred at U.S. Steel's Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, which is about 10 miles east of Pittsburgh. According to reports from U.S. Steel, the fire broke out just before 2 a.m. The fire was small and localized, the company stated, and local firefighters were not needed to put the fire out. The incident reportedly did not impact operations at the plant.

The injured employee was taken to the hospital by helicopter, and was treated and released. The company did not report specifically on the severity of the worker's injuries and whether he has since returned to work.

Although the injuries suffered in this case appear to have been minor, workplace fires and explosions have the potential to cause much greater harm. According to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), 240 people died after suffering occupational injuries during a recent year in Pennsylvania. These injuries include slips and falls, fires and explosions, exposure to toxic substances, transportation accidents and contact with harmful equipment and objects.

A worker who suffers harm as a result of an industrial accident has the right to seek legal recourse and monetary damages for his or her injuries through a personal injury lawsuit or similar means.
