Mine worker crushed by overturned rig

A worker was killed at a company's plant when a gas drilling rig at a coal mining plant over turned and crushed the worker to death. The worker was employed by a Pennsylvania based company at the time that the fatal accident occurred.

Though the matter was to be investigated by the Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training, the investigation has now been turned over to the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) for a determination as to how this accident occurred. The reason for this is because the accident did not actually occur on what is referred to as bonded mine property.

There are many occupations that present a number of risks for workers. However, work-related accidents are different from personal injury cases where the person injured or killed often assumed these risks when engaging in a particular activity.

When it comes to employment, generally the employer chooses the conditions under which workers perform their jobs, and the worker is often unaware that a danger actually exists. Also, the worker is performing a duty for others when doing their job, and often these duties are essential for others.

Because of these circumstances, attorneys representing injured employees will hold companies accountable for not taking greater steps to insure worker safety. Though companies are often on tight budgets when conducting business, areas that should never be underfunded include training of employees and taking all of the necessary safety precautions to insure that workers are safe.

Most companies do what they can to make certain workers are not injured. Unfortunately, there are a few exceptions to this.
