Young girl dies shortly after admission to nursing home

A young girl with cerebral palsy was institutionalized, but shortly later she died while in the nursing home's care. The girl was taken away from her mother out of concerns that that parent would not be able to adequately care for her.

The girl apparently suffered from life-threatening seizures. However, according to the girl's mother, there were no doctors present when the girl was admitted to the nursing home. The girl's death occurred only 12 hours after she was admitted to the home.

There is much more to this story than simple malpractice on the part of the nursing home. Apparently, the girl was receiving better care from her mother who had taken care of the girl for 14 years. However, state health care officials had refused to provide the mother with the resources she needed to provide the girl with 24-hours a day care.

As in many medical malpractice cases, there are often more than one party responsible to the injuries that occur to the patient. Concerning this particular incident, it is alleged that the girl would likely have received better care if she had remained with her mother at a much lower cost.

The girl was apparently not strapped down while riding in the ambulance. It is believed that she was deprived of medication for close to half a day. Apparently, the girl was screaming as she was being admitted to the nursing home. Shortly later, she died of a heart attack.

A lawyer for the girl's mother stated that there had been "medical negligence here across the board." Hopefully, a lawsuit will bring out the truth as to what occurred here so that this type of incident never again will occur.
