Pennsylvania turnpike worker killed by truck

A Pennsylvania turnpike worker was killed while performing maintenance on a toll road. Apparently a truck crashed into the maintenance vehicle next to where the worker was standing, and then the maintenance vehicle toppled onto its side and on top of the worker.

At least two other individuals were injured in this accident. The eastbound lanes of toll road had to be shut down for several hours, and the westbound lanes were temporarily closed to allow for a medical helicopter to land.

There are generally warning sites where road construction takes place requesting that drivers slow down and proceed with care through such areas. However, these promptings are frequently ignored.

This type of accident will require investigation, and it may take time before an actual determination is made. However, for the family to recover, some sort of independent investigation will also need to be conducted to find specifically how this accident occurred. Also, family members will require independent representation to ensure that at least any financial loss suffered will receive compensation.

There are generally enough risks that come along with road construction occupations without drivers making the dangers even worse. Though attorneys can help family members receive compensation for the worker's injuries and lost wages, no amount of money will ever make up for this type of loss.

The worker in question had been employee on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for the last 12 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and had earned a number of citations. He had been married for 43 years, had two daughters and three grandchildren.

These types of accidents are tragic because so many people are often dependent upon these workers for financial and emotional support.
