Asbestos and other contaminants found in drinking water

It seems that certain communities have not shown a great deal of concern as to what's been dumped into our water supply - and particularly the water from which we drink. Local experts from one Pennsylvania community listed the following ingredients contained in their drinking water: lead, copper, chlorine, radon, haloacetic acid, and other contaminants including asbestos.

This same community had been cited for fecal coliform and E-coli in its water just a few years ago. Residents from the community have already complained about health effects from drinking the water including diarrhea, cramps, nausea and headaches. Hopefully, the contamination will not be so severe as to cause long term health effects.

The variety of contaminants is particularly concerning for infants, young children and individuals with compromised immune systems. Though substances may be listed as being below hazardous levels for consumption, such levels are prone to change as more information becomes available. It's also concerning that the same community has had a history of problems when it comes to water that people drink.

Residents should be allowed to assume that they can consume something such as drinking water without being exposed to hazardous chemicals. If such consumers suspect that such environmental hazards exist, they may wish to speak to an attorney to find out what can be done.

The problem here isn't strictly confined to asbestos exposure. Many individuals make the assumption that asbestos only presents a danger if it is breathed in. However, it's extremely disconcerting when individuals make decisions that certain substances are allowable when it comes to being contained in our drinking water.
