Pennsylvania construction worker pinned under paving roller

A Pennsylvania mechanic was killed while repairing a paving roller. According to the coroner investigating the cause of death, the worker was performing maintenance upon the paving roller "when for an unknown reason the machine lurched forward pinning the decedent below it."

Anytime workers are killed in work-related accidents, it's important that the exact cause be determined so that similar types of accidents do not occur again. If the cause was due to violations of work-related safety rules, the company needs to change its safety procedures. If there was a defect in the paving roller that caused it to lurch forward, that defect must be corrected by the manufacturer to prevent further tragedies like this from occurring.

The conditions of certain occupations already involve enough risks without employers or manufactures creating additional dangers as well. Construction workers are expected to operate potentially dangerous equipment, work with materials like hot tar, and work at unsafe locations including the top of buildings or along busy expressways. The risk of injury is already present, even without any negligence taking place.

For workers that are injured or killed, they or their family members may wish to consult with an experienced workers' compensation attorney to find out what can be done to make up for their injuries. These workers may be concerned about other matters besides just recovering from what occurred. They may be out of work for a long period of time, and may not have enough money to support their families or pay off their medical bills. Such workers may also be concerned about the status of their job after reporting that a work-related injury had taken place.

Workers' compensation claims require a great deal of jumping through hoops. It's best that someone be there to guide workers and family members through these hoops so that the process of making a claim will go smoothly.
