Anesthesiologist may have caused brain injury and death to child

A civil action is currently being tried against a doctor after a 22-month old child died following what was supposed to have been a routine outpatient dental procedure. The patient woke up from the procedure and began thrashing around. In response, the doctor then prescribed morphine for the child, and such a prescription may ultimately have led to brain injury and eventual death.

It has been claimed that the anesthesiologist made a mistake in this prescription decision, and that this doctor also failed to closely monitor the child after the powerful narcotic was administered. The attorney for the doctor instead placed the blame on the nurse that administered the morphine, and also the hospital that hired the nurse.

Thus, it appears that even the anesthesiologist that is the defendant in this lawsuit feels that medical malpractice occurs. Now it becomes a game of finger pointing as to what individual or entity is culpable.

It's for this reason that patients and family members may find the best results by contacting a medical malpractice attorney that has practiced a number of brain injury cases. Such attorneys can review the medical file, examine the doctor and other witnesses, arrange for expert witnesses to testify, and prove that the defendant in the case was actually guilty of making a medical mistake.

Without question, a 22-month old child should not suffer brain damage as the result of an outpatient dental procedure. However, as in so many medical malpractice lawsuits, the matter becomes complicated in determining which party can be held accountable.
