Diagnosis of cancer in the young

Cancer is frequently being misdiagnosed for patients younger than 50-years old. Doctors are often not even checking for the cancer, and this is why delayed diagnosis is occurring - and why it is always a good idea for Pennsylvania patients to get a second opinion.

Doctors are failing to diagnose such cancer, even when all the symptoms suggest that such cancer is present. The one cancer that is being misdiagnosed more than any other is colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer for individuals under fifty has been greatly on the rise. Doctors have been apt to dismiss checking for such a cancer due to the age of the patient. But because tests are not being conducted, it is taking longer to diagnose the cancer. Also, once it has been diagnosed, it is often too late to treat the illness.

Cancer will continue to progress if it is left untreated. Stage 1 can become stage 3 or stage 4 cancers if the disease is not diagnosed early. Stage 3 or stage 4 cancers can result in long term hospitalization or, in some cases, even death.

The earlier the diagnosis, the better are the chances of recovery. And treatment of cancer at an early stage rather than a late stage can ultimately result in more cost savings for everyone - not to mention recovery for the patient.

Medical malpractice attorneys can assist such misdiagnosed patients recoup medical costs for treatment that could have been avoided if the cancer had been diagnosed early. It cannot take back what has occurred regarding one's medical condition, but it can at least help prevent a family from having to file medical bankruptcy.
