Two DUIs in one day leads to fatal accident

Fatal crashes involving drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs has become all too common. A recent fatal crash killing a bicyclist in Pennsylvania differs only in that it was the second accident the driver of the car striking the pedestrian was involved in during the same evening, and in both crashes the individual had been driving under the influence of a mood altering substance.

On the day that both accidents occurred, the driver in question was first involved in a three-car accident on a Pennsylvania expressway. He was released by authorities shortly after that accident without having to post bail. Unfortunately, he decided to get behind the wheel once more only a few hours later after taking heroin, drove the right way down a one-way street, and was involved in a crash that took the life of another individual.

The driver has since pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, and he has been sentenced to five to ten years in prison. The driver's attorney stated that his client was addicted to heroin at the time of the fatal accident.

What the driver's attorney stated was probably true. Unfortunately, that does not change the fact that a pedestrian was killed due to a senseless crash. Any prison time that the driver serves will not change what happened.

Attorneys experienced in helping families deal with the wrongful death of a loved one will seek alternate theories for the family to recover. It's impossible to know from the facts of this particular scenario whether anyone else besides the driver was at fault. However, such attorneys will attempt to determine whether this is the case.

Families deserve to be compensated for their loss - especially when the loss was due to someone else's reckless behavior.
