Medical mistakes in Pennsylvania likely reduced

Medical malpractice claims in Pennsylvania have actually decreased during recent years. In fact, such claims were at a record low in 2010. This may simply be because doctors have actually been taking more precautions in the practice of medicine.

Doctor and surgical errors are responsible for approximately 1.5 million injuries every year throughout the United States. The 5th leading cause of unintentional injuries and death in the United States is now believed to be medical errors caused by hospital staff.

As a nation, we are led to believe that we can trust our doctors to do the right thing. For a doctor to practice in our country, such an individual must receive a bachelor's degree, attend four years of medical school, and completed close to 7 years of residency. Such doctors must also accumulate years of training and medical experience before being allowed to perform surgery.

Because such doctors are so deeply trusted, bringing a medical malpractice lawsuit due to a doctor error or surgical mistake may be difficult. It's always best to retain an attorney experienced in the medical malpractice area before advancing such a claim.

Even when a medical mistake has been suspected, most patients do not seek compensation for their injuries. Instead, such individuals choose to retain another doctor or become more vocal in expressing their concerns.

We have seen improvements in medical safety because patients are more proactive in their care. Still, a large number of medical mistakes will likely continue. Right now, the number of patient deaths due to medical malpractice such as doctors' mistakes or surgical errors has been estimated to be around 225,000.
