Diagnosing of women for a heart attack

Pennsylvania women may want to follow-up on any concerns regarding heart attack symptoms. Unfortunately, one of the most common mistakes for physicians to make is a heart attack misdiagnosis.

A cause for concern is that diagnosing a heart attack in a woman is often more difficult than it is in diagnosing a heart attack in a man. Often women suffering from heart attack are not actually experiencing chest pain at the time that it is occurring. And women having a heart attack but not experiencing chest pain were actually found to be at a high risk of dying.

A study has shown that 42 percent of women while suffering a heart attack were experiencing no chest pain as compared to only 30 percent for men. Yet the death rate for women suffering from heart attack versus men is only one and a half times higher.

Medical malpractice claims brought by lawyers and their patients come about especially when it concerns the misdiagnosis of a heart attack. The reason for this is because doctors cannot afford to make such a mistake as heart disease remains the number one cause for death among men and women in the United States

Doctors should be aware of risk factors for all patients when it comes to diagnosing potential heart problems. A doctor should look at family history, whether the patient is a smoker, whether one is positive for diabetes or has high cholesterol, and whether the patient has suffered a prior heart attack.

Misdiagnosis of a heart attack or cardiac arrest may be one of the greatest mistakes that a physician can make. Such misdiagnosis can take away precious time needed to react to the problem, and it can lead to permanent damage to the heart or even death.
