Cosmetic products can be dangerous

Pittsburgh residents purchasing cosmetics should be aware that certain such consumer goods can present dangers and could be classified as defective products. There can be mercury in skin creams, lead in lipstick, various microbes in mascara, formaldehyde in various hair products, and particles in what are called "mineral" makeup that can be inhaled into the lungs.

One problem with the purchasing of such products is that the labels on the products may be misleading or even deceptive. For example, users may not know that mercury is contained in such products because the product labeling will identify it by other names such as "calomel" or "mercurio." Often products will contain no listing of ingredients whatsoever. And in the case of hair products, some labels will suggest that the products of free of formaldehyde when the products actually do contain the substance.

Though product manufacturers should already know this, there are no safe levels of mercury or lead. Also, some of these products can only be safely used for a certain period of time and can present dangers in less than three months time after such products were produced. Manufacturers have a duty of warning of such dangers. More importantly, such manufacturers have a duty of labeling their products accurately.

If someone's been injured while using one of these products it would be a good idea to contact an attorney experienced in dealing with cases involving defective products. Such attorneys can review the matter and decide if such a matter is actionable.
