Class Action Law Monitor

Ledet v. Ascentive L.L.C., No. 11-0094 (E.D. Pa. complaint filed Jan. 18, 2011)

A class action lawsuit alleges that Ascentive L.L.C. committed fraud on consumers by fabricating computer problems in an effort to sell repair software.

The company allegedly offered free diagnostic testing for potential customers. It would then falsely report that there were severe threats on a user's system in order to sell software that would supposedly repair the computer.

The lawsuit also alleges that Ascentive advertised software that was supposed to clean up a person's computer, but consumers were forced to inadvertently sign up for an extended service plan with their purchase. The lawsuit seeks declaratory relief in addition to compensatory and punitive damages.
