Multiple defendants named in asbestos lawsuit

Though manufacturers have long lobbied legislatures for limitations are asbestos injury cases, the scope of such cases has not gotten any smaller. One couple has just named 143 companies in an asbestos-related disease case, and many of these companies have Pittsburgh ties.

A worker in this matter alleged that he was exposed to asbestos compounds and inhaled asbestos dust throughout his period of employment. This worker has since been diagnosed with asbestosis and colon cancer, and both illnesses are attributed to asbestos exposure.

It has further been asserted by the couple that the companies named in the lawsuit kept quiet about the dangers of asbestos. In keeping silent about such dangers, not only were workers exposed to unnecessary risks, no efforts to halt the marketing and sales of asbestos were ever put forward.

Considering the medical prognosis for the worker, it is no wonder that such a lawsuit has been brought. Though asbestosis is not a cancer, it is a breathing disorder that often leads to cancer. And the devastating news that one has been stricken by colon cancer cannot be understated.

Whether any or all of the companies named in the complaint actually contributed to the worker's medical condition will need to be determined by the courts. The attorneys representing the worker will have a difficult task. Some of the defendants will likely be dismissed from the lawsuit due to an inability to show a connection between the company and any asbestos exposure that took place.

However, such litigation is not frivolous, and parties responsible for causing such exposure need to be held accountable. The consequences of asbestos exposure are too severe to be ignored.
