Severe injuries result from pool chemical accident

Typically, when we consider the possibility of a pool accident, our attention is focused on the chance of a child who is unable to swim falling into the pool, or other similar accidents that could have disastrous consequences, such as drowning. Rarely do we consider the dangerous reactions that can occur when the chemicals added to pools to rid them of harmful bacteria are not used properly.

Pittsburgh residents should be aware of a recent swimming pool accident in Indiana, which resulted in injuries to 71 individuals.

The swimming pool accident occurred when a product used to clean pools was combined with chlorine, which resulted in the production of a harmful chlorine gas. The gas caused a variety of severe symptoms, including coughing, irritation of the eyes, nausea and vomiting. Luckily, the gas did not cause any burns.

In addition to the 71 people sent to the hospital for evaluation, many others were checked for symptoms by medical personnel at the pool.

When such an accident occurs, it is important for the injured parties to understand their rights. People who have been injured in a pool chemical accident may be able to bring a cause of action against the negligent party. To file a lawsuit, it is necessary to know who owns the pool - whether it is a private party or a municipality, the negligent party may be liable for the accident.

For those who have been injured in a swimming pool accident, contacting an experienced premises liability attorney can ensure their rights are protected.
