Pittsburgh area school children in bus crash

A fatal bus accident took place recently in the Pittsburgh area that resulted in more than 17 students being taken to the hospital. The fatal accident also resulted in the bus driver being critically injured and the death of the driver of the truck involved in the crash.

Though the matter will have to be investigated to determine how this accident occurred, it appears that the tractor-trailer truck collided head-on with the bus that was carrying 22 students and two adults. The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the bus driver was airlifted to the hospital.

It is important that school and city officials, law enforcement officers and attorneys for those injured investigate this matter to determine how it occurred. Obviously, we cannot afford to have another accident of this type occur again.

Also, further precautions need to be taken to make certain that our children are safe when riding on school buses. Those in charge of operating school buses must abide by the same traffic laws as everyone else and have a heightened duty since they are in charge of transporting children and parents that are dependent upon them. On the other hand, an operator of a tractor-trailer needs to take the utmost of care because such vehicles can cause so much damage in a collision.

The consequences of this accident could actually have turned out much worse. Children are not ordinarily buckled into their seats on a school bus and it's difficult to understate how badly students could be injured when a collision occurs. Fortunately, no children died in this accident.
