RHETT P. CHERKIN: One of the biggest misconceptions I believe is out there in the general community when people are dealing with work injuries is whether or not an individual needs an attorney to represent them in a case.
FRED C. SOILIS: I believe it's important that they have a lawyer right away, at least for knowledge of their rights in the workers' compensation process.
KEVIN W. LEE: It's urgent for people to understand that the decisions they make within the first 30 days of having an injury can have an impact on their right to benefits. And they have a serious impact on their family and their income two or three years down the line.
THOMAS G. SMITH: In the years that I've practiced, unfortunately, I've seen a lot of people who have delayed in contacting an attorney after they've been hurt at work because they're fearful that their employer terminate them. They're fearful that they will lose their job, that if they file a workers' comp claim, the employer will replace them with another worker and they won't be able to go back after they've been injured.
RHETT P. CHERKIN: Often, early on in a case, things can be going well. And individuals don't believe they need an attorney at that time. In fact, that's the most important time to obtain an attorney for representation.
